On Billions, Caroline Polachek conjures a sonic journey that feels familiar yet unknown at the same time. It feels like a meandering cruise down a river with something new around each bend. Her use of space in the mix allows for surprises of additional vocals and instrumentation to pop up and elevate the listening experience. Her misty vocals sound so warm and inviting as they guide us through the song. The powerful chorus of voices at the end is the perfect send off to such a voyage.
Billions is a return from Polachek that I'm ready to greet with open arms. Releases from Polachek have been sparse since the release of her brilliant 2019 album, Pang, so I cannot wait to see what else she has in store for the year.
