Louie Duffelbags has already started off 2022 strong with his new single, "Dulling All My Senses." The Atlanta artist released the single ahead of his upcoming project, Jackal, giving us a hint at what the new project will be like.
The song features a droning synth noise throughout, panned to have a hypnotic effect that pulls you in from the first second. Softly picked acoustic guitar strings are perfectly contrasted with the pattern of the deep 808s, giving the beat a gliding flow. Electric guitar comes in later to add an extra layer to the build. I've been a fan of Louie's embrace of guitar as an instrument to lean on in his production and this song is another confirmation of why I feel that way. Every piece of the production knows its place and is put in and taken out at the perfect time, allowing for an ever dynamic feel to the song.
After following Louie's music, both solo and as a part of Danger Incorporated, I'm always wowed to see the ways that he can stick to similar sonic feels of his music and venture into new and different territory at the same time. The combinations of both new and old sounds allows for a familiar comfortability, but it never feels old and dull. He's always able to experiment with new ways to express himself through his music, and it just works.
"Dulling All My Senses" makes me even more excited to hear what his upcoming project will be like and see where Louie goes next.
