While Kim Petras has been following a consistent trend of popularity and exposure since her early collaborations with SOPHIE and Charli XCX, Petras has finally come into her new pop identity with her new EP, Slut Pop.
While Petras has been releasing hints of new tracks from the EP since the early days of February, her progression to the release of this new EP presents a sonic and tonal shift to her vocal work that is not foreign from her usual calls for gender and sexual empowerment. While Slut Pop moves and sways like a series of tracks booming from club speakers compared to her early ballad-like vocal work, musical influences from both artist externally and her own discography is apparent in Slut Pop.
While the track Your Wish is My Command has instrumentals to French-house styles, Kim’s slightly digitized voice almost hits moments that parallel Daft Punk’s sound. Songs like Superpower Bitch enters measures similar in style to her last single Coconuts, it enters a new down-beat heavy tone that is different from Petra’s usual flair, but refreshing.
